USDA Organic Third Party Certifiers

Did you know that all products carrying the USDA Certified Organic seal are inspected annually by an accredited 3rd party certifying agency to ensure compliance with the rigorous standards? It’s true!

Kalona SuperNatural products are certified by two agencies – both with deep roots in the organic community- the Iowa Department of Agriculture & Land Stewardship (Farmers Creamery products like fluid milk and butter)  and the Midwest Organic Services Association (Westby Cooperative Creamery co-packed products like cottage cheese, sour cream, and yogurt). Both of these agencies are reputable and certify all aspects of the food chain, including dairy farms and the handling of milk.

These third-party certifiers have been trained and accredited by the National Organic Program (NOP). The NOP, which is a part of the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service, has regulatory oversight responsibilities for the USDA organic standard and the accreditation of organic certifying agents, as found on the USDA website.

So what does all of this mean to you, the consumer?

By utilizing an independent third-party audit system, the NOP can ensure compliance with strict regulatory requirements and standards. Also, third party agencies provide fresh, unbiased eyes when it comes to farm visits.

Organic agricultural practices ensure the long-term health of life on our planet, including the soil, plants, animals, and people.
